Guardian Group Charitable Foundation Donates US$15,000 to Building A Better Jamaica Fund for Hurricane Beryl Relief

In a demonstration of commitment to community support and corporate responsibility, the Guardian Group Charitable Foundation is making a generous contribution to the Building A Better Jamaica Fund. The Fund, which was launched July 5, 2024 by the NCB Foundation, is aimed at supporting Jamaicans affected by Hurricane Beryl.

The donation, valued at US$15,000 (JM$2,316,000), was handed over by Guardian Group Jamaica, Tuesday July 30, 2024.

Karen Bhoorasingh, Group P&C Chief Technical Officer & President Guardian General Insurance Jamaica Limited and President of Guardian Life Limited, Meghon Miller Brown handed over the cheque to Deputy Chairman of the NCB Foundation, Andrew Pairman.

The contribution to the Building A Better Jamaica Fund, underscores the collective effort to aid in the recovery and rebuilding of communities devastated by Hurricane Beryl on July 3. The initiative has seen notable support from various corporate and social partners, highlighting the power of unity in times of crisis.

President Miller Brown emphasised the importance of solidarity and community action, stating, “In challenging times, the strength of community and solidarity become paramount. By supporting NCB's Disaster Relief Fund, Guardian Group reaffirms its dedication to aiding Jamaicans in their recovery from the severe effects of Hurricane Beryl. We are honoured to collaborate with NCB and other corporate entities in this vital mission to restore hope and stability to those impacted."

The funds collected will play a critical role in the restoration of homes and small businesses, as well as support for agriculture in the severely affected parishes of St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland and Clarendon. The hurricane’s outer bands left a trail of destruction on Jamaica’s south coast, resulting in hundreds of persons losing their roofs. Several areas are still without electricity and water supply due to extensive damage. The effects of the storm also left billions of dollars in losses to the agriculture and fisheries sector.
