LIFE . HEALTH . PENSIONS
Bridgetown, Barbados, October 6, 2015: On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, one of the most celebrated cricket competitions for juniors bowls off. The Guardian Group Herman Griffith Primary Schools Cricket Competition has been a well anticipated fixture on the primary schools sporting calendar for many years. For 2015, it is predicted that the keen rivalry exhibited over the 35 year existence of the event, will be seen as the under 11 school boys and girls from each corner of Barbados seek to be the champions.
Guardian Group, through its property and casualty arm, Guardian General Insurance Limited (GGIL) has been associated with this competition as title sponsors for the past 17 years. The schools’ cricket competition continues to grow from strength to strength due in part to the corporate and financial commitment of Guardian Group and the continued dedication of the organisers, the National Sports Council.
Mr. Nigel Adams, Executive Manager of Guardian General Insurance Limited, pointed out at the competition’s recent Media Launch that the company is committed to supporting the competition. Mr. Adams noted that sponsorship is very much a part of the life of any business entity and that Guardian Group considered such funding as having a role in both individual and societal development. He added that it bolsters efforts to improve wellbeing generally, and to realising human potential in the communities and territories in which Guardian Group operates. Mr. Adams reiterated that Guardian Group is happy to assist in providing the foundation for the growth of young talent.
In the context of the group’s corporate social responsibility, the competition promotes physical activity which is important for the health, development and well-being of our children. It also provides a platform that exposes them to the values of team work, fair play and cooperation.
The National Sports Council anticipates that over 50 primary schools will participate in the competition. The opening match will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Friendship cricket grounds at 10:00am. The 2014 defending champions, West Terrace Primary will play against Eden Lodge Primary. Matches will be played every Wednesday and Friday from 10am over an eight week period with the final scheduled for the first week in December.
