Bridgetown, January 26, 2018: Guardian Group, continues to be a strong supporter of initiatives that promote the sustainability and well-being of the territories in which it operates. Recently, Guardian Group made a generous donation to the Substance Abuse Foundation Inc. (SAF) in aid of their Solar Photovoltaic Rooftop Project. This environmentally friendly project seeks to create a long-term source of sustainable commercial income for SAF, as it works towards the development of a new model of financial sustainability based on the generation of solar energy.
As a Pan Caribbean insurer and recognizing the importance of renewable energy and projects geared towards same, Guardian Group recognized this initiative as an excellent fit within its own corporate social responsibility principles. Guardian Group, as a corporate entity also actively encourages individual and societal development by supporting efforts to improve well-being and realize human potential in the communities and territories where the company operates.
The Executive Manager of the Group’s Property and Casualty arm, Mr. Nigel Adams, firstly commended the Foundation for its robust efforts in providing rehabilitative services to those affected by the vagaries of substance abuse and their efforts to reintegrate persons into the society. With renewable energy and its sources being of paramount importance in today’s world, Mr. Adams expressed that Guardian Group was happy to be a social partner with the organization in its efforts to meet its financial responsibilities by leveraging its strategic assets in a very positive and sustainable way.
In accepting the cheque, Mrs. Marietta Carrington, CEO, Substance Abuse Foundation conveyed her gratitude and praised Guardian Group for recognizing the importance of such an initiative. She highlighted that the SAF has already established various micro-businesses to provide work opportunities for their clients while in treatment. The renewable energy project will see the installation of 502 solar panels on existing buildings at Verdun House and will help with long-term sustainability of both Verdun and Marina House. Through training on the installation of the equipment, expanded work opportunities will be available for clients.
The Substance Abuse Foundation (SAF) was established 22 years ago to fight the harmful impact of illicit drugs and alcohol on the lives of citizens and their families in Barbados and the wider Caribbean. The Foundation has two main residential treatment facilities – Verdun House which caters to males, and Marina House which is its all-female counterpart. The SAF provides a full continuum of services dedicated to assisting individuals to recover from the physical, emotional and spiritual devastation caused by addiction.
